On the evening of April 28, 1963, at 10:00pm, the American people were given there first long, close-up look at Barbra Streisand.

They were enthralled and delighted by what they saw. Rushing from set to set in a flowing gown singing “I’m Late“, cavorting in a hugely over sized playground as a five-year-old, joking with the audience during a monologue about a weird lady called “Pearl From Istanbul“, waltzing through Bergdorf Goodman’s in assorted expensive outfits singing “Second Hand Rose” and finally performing in concert, Barbra proved herself to be one of the most exiting, talented performers in show business.

MY NAME IS BARBRA created a sensation across the country as revewers outdid each other in the praising the show and its star. One critic called it, “The classic hour of entertainment in any field.”  New York’s JOURNAL AMERICAN ran a front-page photo the following day, with the caption “Magnificent Barbra.”

At award time early the following year, MY NAME IS BARBRA won give Emmys:  “Outstanding Program“; “Outstanding Individual Achievement in Entertainment” – Barbra Streisand; “Best Concept, Choreography and Staging” – Joe Layton; “Best Art Design” – Tom John and Bill Harp; and “Best Musical Direction” – Peter Matz.
